Strip Contruction Plate


DAY 1 (Please stay tuned for date/time information)- 11:00 am - 5 pm &
Day 2-coldworking-individually scheduled date/time

 

Have fun creating your own beautiful 8" by 8" by 1/2" thick and heavy platter while learning the fundamentals of strip construction.

We will teach you a quick and easy way to cut your glass, how to set up a dam to assemble your strips in, and the firing schedules needed to fuse and slump your creation.

One the second day you will learn to use the tile saw, wet belt sander, and sandblaster to cold work your pieces for that smooth professional look.


This workshop will put you on the path to make many more beautiful strip constructions ahead.

 




"Hugging Splatter" Plate

Intro series of kiln- formed glass workshop, in which you will learn the basic technical and fundamental  concepts of glass forming: fusing, slumping and draping . You will also learn or reinforce your basic glass cutting skills.

At the end of the first day of class, students will construct two separate projects:  the 8’ diameter round plate and  the glass “splatter” of your own design, which will be fused and prepared for shaping on the second day of the class.

After completing this class, you will be eligible to continue working in Affinity Glassworks open  studio sessions. No experience with glass is required for this course—recommended for beginners.

 

 






Sushi Set Plate

Join us for this 4 hours introduction to fused glass workshop in which you will learn the the fundamental concepts of creating glass objects in the kiln, including glass cutting, glass fusion, and simple design elements. Choosing from a wide variety of glass types and colors, you will make 2 sushi style, plates which we will fire and slump for you ready to pick up a few days after the workshop.

You will have fun learning all the technical aspects and fundamentals while at the same time making piece that you will be proud to take home.. Create your own eye-catching work of art ready for the dinner table.

 





HAPPY SCRAP Mirror

Looking for a creative and functional way to use scrap glass?  Our “Happy Scrap Mirror” class will show you how!

On the first day students  will construct a planned yet random sheets of glass from scrap strips, stringer and frits and prepare part sheets  to be used to construct 8" by 10" mirror frame.

On the second day of the class you will learn how to cut your part sheets  into strips, construct the frame, create recess for the mirror, and how to embed a wire to be able to hang mirror.  Also, instruction will be given on attaching the mirror after the frame is fired. No cold-working involved.

HIP 2B SQUARE RETRO PLATE!

Make this fun, wacky and oh so 70′s retro fun platter over two afternoons. You’ll leave with a 12" by 7" by almost 1/2" think funky platter. Great project for the "Boomers" or the new crop of "Hipsters".

And NOT JUST FUN but also an educational experience since techniques covered in this workshop include:

Volume containment damming, cold working with the wet belt sander, sand blasting for surface treatment, kiln schedules for fusing, fire polishing and slumping.

 




Angeled Strip Plate

Have fun creating your own beautiful  6" by 6" by 3/8" thick plate. You will learn the techniques of strip plate  construction.

The first day of class you will learn how to cut the glass and assemble the strips into a dam correctly to create and angled strip look. We will also go over the firing schedule for fusing and slumping the piece.

On the second day you will learn to use the tile saw, a wet belt sander, and sandblaster to cold work your pieces for that smooth professional look.


This workshop will put you on the path to make many more beautiful angled strip constructions ahead.

 




Fusing Glass for the Very First Time - An Introduction

Ready to learn the fundamentals and start making your own kiln-formed glass projects? Then this is the perfect workshop for you.

Join us for this 3 hours introduction to fused glass workshop, in which you will learn the basic technical concepts of kiln formed glass. Choosing from a wide variety of glass types and colors, you will make an 6"x8" panel which we will fire for you ready to pick up the following day. This is a great foundation workshop for the new glass fuser.

You will have fun learning all the technical and fundamental aspects while at the same time making piece that you will be proud to take home.

You’ll come away confident that it’s OK to play with glass at 1490F degrees!

After firing is completed you can decide if you’d like your piece slumped or left flat to be a decorative panel, perfect to put in a sunny window.   No cold-working involved.
